We all want to make the most of our waking life and yet we spend so much time asleep! The maths is easy: based on the average person sleeping 8 hours a night, that’s one-third of a day in dreamland. The average person, like you, dreams 4-7 times during an eight-hour sleep.
You are probably sleeping for about a third of your life…
Let’s put this another away, according to the United Nations World Population Prospects 2015, the average lifespan of a human is 70 years*.
That means you are probably going to sleep for around 23 years of your life – give or take (and that’s about 33,580-58,765 dreams in your lifetime!).
So doesn’t it seem like a good idea to make that time ‘work’ for you?
That makes about 33,580-58,765 opportunities to make waking life easier for yourself. Seems a bit of a no-brainer right?
Yes, we all need downtime and rest is vital, but as the body never completely shuts down (we all still breath while we sleep!), let’s use that time to rest, relax, rejuvenate and help make waking life more fulfilling.
So, how do you make the best of your dream time adventures?
Here are five easy things to help you dream your way to success:
- Make your bedroom THE place to rest and relax
We all know what you would love to do in your super, awesome bed… sleep blissfully of course!
Sleep is not only vital to dreaming, but to your entire life. If bad dreams are disrupting your sleep, chances are waking life is a bit edgy and the people around you are getting fed-up as well.
The best start is to clear the clutter. Urgh, hate those words, but a bedroom cleared of clutter, with a nicely made bed, space all around and a comfy bed to dive into, bliss! A clear up helps your brain organise itself as well and clear the way for dreams that support and nourish you, and those around you will feel the benefits too.
- Lights out one hour before sleep time (even you!)
It’s not just the kids that need to have a dedicated lights-out time!
This means slowing down and letting your body know sleep time is on its way.
Switch off all TV’s computers, laptops, tablets, (basically anything with LED lighting) an hour before bed. With the kids tucked up and gently snuffling, you can now take a deep breath and give yourself at least an hour to decamp, debrief from the day and have some dedicated ‘me-time’.
Whatever you choose to do, give thanks and slow down!
- Exercise for at least half an hour a day
By exercising regularly, you prevent stressors taking hold from the start, shake off the excess stresses of the day and allow the happy-hormones to flow. With regular happy-doses, you are open to change the persistent patterns holding you back. Exercise and the power of knowing your personal dreams will help transform these not-so-great-patterns into waking-wonders.
With you looking at life in a positive way, your dreams can lead you to successes manifested more easily. You’ll be more likely to spot opportunities and be ready to act on them.
- Keep pen and paper next to your bed
When your dreams wake you, jot down exactly what you saw, felt or heard. Not thinking or trying to make sense of the dream, simply what it was, that’s it.
Guess what, now you have written it down, you can go back to sleep safe in the knowledge your dream is written down and on your bedside stand.
You can re-read the dream and work with it when you are awake. And what’s more, it’s written hot-off-the-dream-press, no perceptual waking-mind-games, exactly as it was when you dreamed it.
With your dreams written and recorded, you can work with them over time, before you know it your waking world will rock!
If you have been incubating dreams, you will have your answers on waking. Awesome all round, isn’t it?
- Meditate – often (even if you don’t know how!)
By meditating twice a day, you can create a world of total bliss.
Take your dreams and your waking actions to another level, combining them with your inner-knowing for an enhanced, empowered and wonderful you.
You’ll find that by exercising your mind as well as your body, not only will you be fit all round, but your life will be filled with the joy, peace and bliss you so deserve.
The simple way to meditate is to focus on one thing at a time. Start with a mantra like “I am blessed in every way”. As you repeat your mantra, count your blessings for 15 minutes. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening, you will be astounded at how your life changes and your wildest dreams become manifested in all their glory.
There you have it, five simple ways to make your life dreamier!
So get going with remembering, recording and working with your dreams as each dream is the opportunity for you to be your very best self and make your life one of joy, mastery and pure bliss.
