How to shatter your glass ceiling

So, what is the biggest fear we have as women about shattering that glass ceiling once and for all?

Marianne Williamson sums it up beautifully in her book A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of ‘A Course in Miracles’ when she says

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

How then do we stop playing small, shine our light and liberate ourselves?

Counting down my favourite five ways to be brilliant while shattering ceilings…

  1. Get a coach or mentor

Although we think we can do it alone (yes, I include myself here!), running a thriving practice in a vacuum will soon enough lead to burn out.

Weary, we will leave our dreams aside and settle.

Having a Coach or Mentor means you have your personal sounding board. Someone who can help you navigate and avoid the pitfalls. Yes, emotions are irrational masters!

Your coach or mentor gives you the perspective you need to sustain your success.

  1. Collaborate with those who will build you up

No woman is an island! Get out there and build up your network, reach out to others for support.

Buy in the expertise you need to achieve your goals. Work with people who are in a similar mindset to you.

With a network of people to call on, you will soon enough see the potential for unlimited resources…

Together we can achieve greatness.

  1. Have awareness of who you are

Take some time to get in touch with yourself at the soul-level. Shine the light on yourself, iron out the wrinkles and then go out and be great!

Once you know how you tick, where your idiosyncrasies lay and how you work, you can then tell others!

When you understand the people around you, and they you, chances for growing and achieving what you want are infinite. They are then more likely to help you get where you are going.

Clarity and perspective make great friends!

  1. Loose the need for perfection

Let’s face it, everyone’s version of perfection is different, it’s a never-ending battle to be ‘perfect’. Whose version of perfect are you trying to achieve?

Know when good enough is good enough. Trying to be perfect is the number one cause of failure. It’s merely an excuse getting in your way.

The more you try to be perfect, the more you take away from the beauty of what you are achieving. So there, no overkill: aim for a healthy balance of professional, character and quirky.

Wouldn’t you prefer to be around someone unique than someone like a sheep?

  1. Take a risk or two

We all have to take a risk, yet not go where angels fear to tread! Going for the light, power and brilliance mean it’s time to be ready for anything.

Take the time to plan as best you can. You will know what you want and be able to keep your focus on the end result. As Ray Dalio says ‘Success comes from knowing what you don’t know’.

Planning mitigates most of the risk. Plus, allows you to have time and space to take risks that will more likely give you the results you want.

Be brave, play big and allow for risks to be fortuitous.

You are powerful beyond measure, shine your light. After all who are you NOT to be brilliant?
