Nerves are kicking in, the gun is fired. Fiercely contending for a medal, they run with conviction. The medal is won.
Watching the movie ‘Chariots of Fire’ the other day, made me realise just how running for Olympic gold is like running a business!
As we hear the call to business adventure, we kneel down, waiting for the gun to fire at precisely the right moment. Bang. We’re off. The finish line seems a life-time away.
With a little bit of faith and courage (and a few earth-angels), strength of conviction is revealed. Hurdles appear out of nowhere. Some we clear easily, others we trip over. Yet up we get and continue the race.
Going for gold, the eventual prize.
Along the way a few cramps and the odd pulled muscle. Rest time. Regrouping and reviewing, before heading off again.
Running a business is all about heart and soul. If your heart isn’t in it, the failures are epic. If there isn’t any soul, you find yourself alone.
Filled with energy and spirit, you scale mountains.
Eric Liddell’s words ring through your soul: “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”
You reach the finish line. Elated. Joyous. Medal in hand. This however, is the start.
Running a business is a long term endurance run. Once you have set-up, launched and starting seeing clients come in, you realise you need to have the vitality and energy to do this every day. A soulful approach to business makes sustained success possible.
Making your business happen comes from two key places, your soul and your plan.
We each have our purpose planted within our souls. To not use these talents, to not align to our purpose is to slap our Divine-maker in the face. Being successful is honouring God. It is your birth-right.
When you use your Divine talents to progress your business and to live your purpose, you feel the Divine flowing through you. Perspectives shift, Miracles happen. Everything is as it should be.
You can follow the plan that has been in your heart for an eternity.
You can grow a business from ‘nothing’. You can live the life you deserve. Be yourself. Strive to serve humanity and you will always find support along the race to the finish line.
You have the vision, you know the way, you know why you are doing what you are doing. Now is the time to get to the nitty-gritty and do the work. You follow your plan and before long you are there…
Successful business owner. Gold medal winner. Grateful.
Inspiration comes from all places, which movie will you take your lessons from?
